Life will put you on a walkabout.

No, The Secret’s not rubbish, but it’s not enough. It’s not as simple as ‘I want, I want, I want.’ You have to realize there are parts of you fighting each other. You have to stop and ask: Who am I? What do I really want? Sometimes what you think you want is only a momentary emotional flash in the pan. So you have to get alone from all stimuli. You need to go for a walkabout. And if you don’t get that you need to be on a walkabout, life will put you on a walkabout. It’s a sojourn. Get out of here and figure out what it is you need.

Many of our ideas about life are simply not true. One of these is that all the space in our hearts should be continually filled with love and happiness. Holding this belief, we may interpret the empty spaces we inevitably discover in our hearts as indications that we have somehow taken a wrong turn in our lives. It’s important to understand that these “empty spaces” are not signs of failure, but a normal part of our emotional landscape. Discovering a “desert of the heart” is, however, a well-timed spiritual experience—an opportunity to reflect upon the quality of your life choices. It is a gift, a chance to rid yourself of something that is causing you and others pain.
