What now faces us includes every form of life on this planet. Not one is exempt—from the air, to the water, to every species, every nation, every person, every economic system, every political system. Not only that: every philosophical and theological system is affected. There isn’t one mythological system untouched.
There’s a collision of the gods—and there’s a collision of the ground. No one escapes this time. No one, this time.
It is an absolute pleasure to offer this workshop on Teresa of Ávila and John of the Cross in the very place where they lived. For me personally, this is an extraordinarily rare experience—one I will likely never have again. To be able to explore and teach the mystical path of Teresa at this moment in history is a profound gift, and I will begin our time together by reflecting on the deeper significance of studying mysticism today.
This workshop emerges from my relationship with the great Saint Teresa of Ávila—an extraordinary chapter in my life that forever changed the way I understand how heaven, and your perception of heaven, descends and becomes real. When I speak of Teresa, let me say that though she arrived in the world as a Catholic saint, she died a cosmic one. She transcended the container she was born into and articulated that transcendence in her great work, The Interior Castle—which became the inspiration for my own writing, Entering the Castle. The mystic is one who is called to experience God beyond the boundaries of form. That experience is both terrifying and transformational—it takes you out of the world you knew, only to return you to it with your compass spinning.
My intention in this workshop is to share what I have come to learn: that the soul is the most powerful force imaginable—and you cannot even begin to imagine it. The mystic’s journey is not about leaving the world, but about being utterly changed in the way you walk through it.
