It’s spiritual exam time: Who are you? What are your values? Up until now they’ve been group values. Now it’s time to decide who you are — and you’re going to have a crisis. You have to have some kind of crisis that separates you from the whole, and it’s a good thing.

This workshop explores the extraordinary path that opened for me through an unexpected encounter with Teresa of Ávila—an experience as real as you are to me now. While teaching a class on mysticism, I heard her voice say, *“Follow me,”* and in that instant my interior and exterior life changed direction. What followed was not dramatic lights or visions, but a profound reordering of my inner life, including a period of neurological upheaval that many mystics, including Teresa herself, have described before awakening to a deeper mystical consciousness.

In the wake of that encounter, I discarded the book I had been writing—eight months of work—and committed entirely to what I understood as a mystical contract. From that vow came Entering the Castle, a text I had no outline for, no preparation for, and no assurance I could deliver. What I did have was a certainty that when you are called, you must respond with nothing less than everything. This workshop explores that threshold: the moment when your life begins to dismantle, a new path opens, and the only way forward is faith, intuition, and surrender to a guidance greater than yourself.
