Here is a sample of the MARCH SALON:
The Expectation Game
It’s funny what kinds of experiences provide me with the idea for a Salon. I had in mind one subject and then – poof – out it goes because of a man I met in my own town the other day while shopping at Whole Foods. We were both standing in one of those holiday grocery lines -- you know the type, twelve carts long, each one bursting with fabulous goodies plus their yearly supply of everything else. It’s amazing how much we reveal about ourselves via our grocery carts -- but anyway, here I was and there he was, looking as if he had been forced to keep his face in a mammogram torture device (which they are) for twenty-four hours. I am drawn to such people like birds to a birdbath. They positively intrigue me. I wonder, “What are you thinking? Can anything make you happy? Do you like to read?” So, I did what I usually do and initiated a conversation, which, more or less, went like this.
“Hi,” I said. “Hope the weather is better for Easter. It’s freezing out there.”
He looked outside and shrugged his shoulders. I tried again.
“Whole Foods is great, isn’t it?”
“It’s a grocery store. What’s great about a grocery store?”
I didn’t see that answer coming. It was right out of left field. What could I say to that? It was just a grocery store after all. He had a point and I wasn’t about to carry on about the significance of organic vegetables over pre-packaged whatever since I’ve never seen those so-called organic gardens. Who knows how they grow their lettuce? And I could have just shut up, too, and grabbed one of those boring health magazines (which, by the way, only make me feel awful about myself, because I cannot possibly follow every healthy diet, do yoga every day along with tai chi, walk 36 miles a day, meditate all my stress away, make sure I use all the right vitamin E creams so I don’t age, but eat all the right things so I live longer). I decided that talking to this man would do much more for my happy little mood than reading about all the health things that I should be doing but don’t have time for. I can figure out a way to talk to just about anyone.
One more time. I said, “Well, I hope you’ll have a Happy Easter.” To which he replied, “I doubt it. At least it’s cheaper than Christmas.”
I told myself at this point that I am now at that critical junction where I can pry where I don’t belong with personal questions or just leave the poor guy alone, which would be the polite thing to do. But I’d already invested three minutes, so I said, “Well, Easter is not all it’s cracked up to be. I mean I’m not sure how those rabbits got involved in the resurrection in the first place. I don’t even think they had rabbits in Jerusalem when Jesus was crucified. And then there’s the mystery of Easter eggs. Where did that tradition come from? Rabbits don’t have eggs, chickens do. So where did the egg thing come from? I just don’t get it.”

So, having said all that, we’re back to my suggestion that you observe your own behavior when it comes to expectations: Who do you project them on? Why? What do you expect out of people? Places? Things? Anything -- just make a note and introspect. You’re looking to discover your talent as a spell-caster, a subject that will be continued at great length in April’s Salon: Everyday Spells We Cast.
Praise God it’s Spring…
Oh, if I may make a personal suggestion – if you have any curiosity whatsoever about America’s mystical history, or the phenomenon of a channeled manuscript with an extraordinary history of its own, take a look at the George Washington video, if you haven’t had a chance. Finally, after 24-years of involvement with this one document, I have been able to bring to the public -- and it’s been a very long haul, let me tell ya. But I feel such a depth of commitment to this piece of work, and to the Sacred Contract of this nation, that hanging in there for 24 years has been worth the journey. Do take the time to read the piece on George Washington.
Love,
Caroline

Yoga Retreat with Sean Corn
Date/Time:
April 15 - 18, 2005
Description:
Join Seane Corn on this weekend retreat at Miraval Resort and Spa and enjoy daily yoga classes that will inform, inspire and recharge your body, mind and Spirit.
The morning classes are open to all levels of experience and will explore the art of Vinyasa Flow Yoga. This expressive form of yoga infuses movement, breath, meditative awareness and Self-reflection to create a practice that integrates the mystical with the practical. With an emphasis on precise alignment we will move through a complete practice including sun-salutes A & B, standing poses, back bends, forward bends and inversions, as well as, specific instruction in proper vinyasa breathing technique and meditation.
The afternoon classes are open to advanced students and anyone who desires to take their practice a step further. Within a strong practice, we will go beyond vinyasa and explore the interconnectedness of the three vital realms of consciousness-the physical/mental, the energetic/emotional and the psychic/symbolic. The merging of these three realms through asana, meditation, chakra investigation, reflection and prayer can teach us how to strengthen our bodies, communicate with spirit, understand our own resistance and attachments and move us towards a deeper relationship with Self.
