News from Dr. Mario

Sept 26, 2001

As cognitive and medical science advance, we are seeing more than ever how mind, body and spirit are inseparable in the study of human behavior. Science is beginning to confirm with biological and psychological experiments what theologians have been saying for centuries about the healing power of love. As a clinical neuropsychologist I apply scientific principles to understand how compassion, empathy and other evolved emotions affect the immune system and our health.

I am presently writing a book on how mind, body and historical culture shape our personal reality and health. I am particularly impressed however, with the questions people are asking me in Caroline's Expert Forum and I want to encourage you to write me as well as read the archived letters we have posted for your information at Caroline`s Expert Forum.

On October 26 and 27 I am presenting a workshop at the Center for Positive Living in Sarasota titled, "Does the Immune System Have Morals?" In this workshop I will explain how our personal ethics affects out health and quality of life.

For more information on this workshop you can call the Center at 941 379 7793 or visit our website at www.biocognitive.com

Late this year and early next year, I will be presenting workshops and lectures in Vienna, Shanghai, South America and the U.S. about my theory of biocognitive psychology.

My work also includes investigating cases of Stigmata where individuals suddenly develop wounds resembling those of Christ.

These cases are particularly interesting to me because, when they are not self-inflicted or pathological, the wounds do not get infected and the blood has a pleasant aroma reminescent of flowers. In one case I investigated in the Caribbean, I found that a physician who was treating a priest who had developed the wounds of Christ suddenly realized that, as he picked up the priest to put him on a stretcher, his chronic back pain disappeared.

I also find the work Caroline is doing very compatible with what we are beginning to find in the life sciences. There are processes that cannot be reduced to cells or molecules and there is more to us than just flesh and bones. We are self-generated beings that are biologically affected by what we believe and how we behave. We are all here to learn a lesson of love and the sooner we realize it, the faster we will evolve and cease to fear joy and abundance.
